Today we are releasing our new Free Lightroom Instagram Export Presets! These presets, along with proper cropping, will result in the best possible quality images to post on your Instagram.
These export presets have been made for the 2020 image sizes:
- Square – 1080×1080 pixels
- Landscape – 1350×1080 pixels
- Portrait – 1080×1350 pixels
There is an Export Preset for each size. Each preset will save your photo with a custom filename. A filename of 4355 and saving Square will produce a new file named “InstaS_4355”. The photos will save to the current folder, but it will create a new folder called “For INSTA” so that you can separate them from other exported files in the same folder. The presets are preconfigured to save at 300ppi and sharpened for screens.
In order to use these properly, you MUST also crop your photos to the correct Aspect Ratio before exporting. We have explained how to do this in this post about Instagram Cropping and also which cropping presets to use.
How to Install Lightroom Export Presets
For the Export Presets, you cannot Import them from inside Lightroom. You have to install them directly into your File Folders. But there is a button in the Export Box that will take you DIRECTLY to the folder in Lightroom where your Presets are stored. At the very bottom, open up the Post-Processing section. Under “After Export”, choose “Go to Export Actions Folder Now”. It will go directly there when you click it.
When you get there, it actually takes you to the Export ACTIONS folder. But you need to put your Presets into the Export PRESETS folder, under User Presets.
If you want to go directly to the folder without going through Lightroom, here are the locations for PC and Macs:
- PC: \Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Export Presets\User Presets
- Mac OS: /Users/[user name]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Export Presets/User Presets
If you drop your downloaded presets into this folder, they will then appear in the Preset Menu in your Export Box.
